There are too many moments in Olympic history that you could categorize as “unfair”.  Here is a glimpse at our top five greatest blunders in Olympic history.

1) 1976, 1980 & 1984 Summer Olympics - Let’s Trade Boycotts

The 1980 and 1984 boycotts left a lot of Olympic athletes on the sidelines, but these were not the only times boycotts have occured.  In 1976, 26 countries boycotted the games in Montreal due to protests over Apartheid in South Africa .. the offending party was New Zealand who played Rugby in South Africa. Moreover, China boycotted the Olympics until 1984 because Taiwan was recognized as its own country.

Losers: any athlete from a boycotting country lost their chance to compete.

2) USSR men’s basketball team - 1972 Summer Olympics

USSR got several chances in the final seconds to win a game they shouldn’t have by what looked to be extremely biased calls by the referees. The U.S. ended up with a silver medal.

3) 2000 Summmer Olympics - Anyone who raced on a relay with Marion Jones

Relay runners thought they had a gold medal, but were stripped of it for no fault of their own. There were eight teammates who lost medals due to her drug use.

4) 2002 Summer Olympics - Pairs Figure skating

If anyone belived that Olympic judges always act impartially, then watching the scoring at the 2002 Olympics pairs figure skating was depressiong at best. The Canadians Jamie and David finally got their medal after the media went into a mass hysteria and the IOC was left to do damage control.

5) 1984 Summber Olympics - Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Korea

Korea got a huge PR hit due to the 1984 Olympic scandals when Roy Jones Jr. looked like a certain winner in his boxing match, but somehow lost to a Korean fighter and ended up with a silver medal.
